Description

This publication collects the contributions of renowned European and American specialists at the Primitivism in Europe and America symposium, held at the Pompeu Fabra University in November 2016. This is a topic that has been the focus of the investigations of the last years of the Research Center in Primitive Art and Primitivism of the UPF.
Primitivism does not designate a movement or group of artists but rather a notion that has played a crucial role in the development of art of the s. XX and modern thinking in general. Studies on modern art have had little impact on the aspect of primitivist modernism, although it is a trend that is gaining importance in the bibliography in light of the importance that primitivism has had in the aesthetics of some key figures and movements of modernity, like Picasso, the German Expressionists, Dada, the Surrealists, the Abstract Expressionists or the art of the 70s.
