The history of archaeological research in Roses is long and complicated, full of hesitations, stoppages, intense moments of danger that led one to think of the physical disappearance of a complex that had just been declared a historic-artistic monument. And yet, from 1945 onwards, with more or less continuity and dedication, the excavation, cleaning and consolidation campaigns, of varying intensity and duration, have been a constant. This work made it possible to recover an extraordinary amount of archaeological material which, for various reasons, was not published or was only published occasionally, and which was in danger of remaining in the slime for ever and ever.
