Description

The Roman villa of La Quintana, in Cervià de Ter, is an exceptional testimony to Roman rural occupation in north-eastern Catalonia. Discovered in 1981, the site yielded structures, archaeological materials, coins and a remarkable bath complex, which make it possible to reconstruct its development from the Late Republican period to Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages.

This volume organises and interprets the documentation from the excavations carried out between 1981 and 1984, and offers a new reading of the site. The study connects La Quintana with its immediate territory, with the ancient road network and with the place names Cinniana and Ceruiana, which are essential for understanding the historical continuity of Cervià de Ter. It is a necessary contribution to the study of Roman villas and the transformations of the rural landscape in the Girona region.
