Description

This book is born out of a desire to bring to light the work of Manel Roqueta, a lawyer, artist and citizen of Girona in the first half of the 20th century.

A cultured and sociable man, a lover of art, Roqueta is cheerful, somewhat seductive and endowed with a great sense of humour. Energetic and creative, he practised law with full dedication and took an active part in the social life of Girona in his time.

His work, extensive and diverse, has been preserved by a group of cousins for more than a hundred years —a remarkable fact in itself. His specialty was portraiture and, above all, caricature, a genre in which he excelled.

Manel Roqueta did not aspire to posterity: he wanted to portray, with humour, what surrounded him. The result is a vivid and colourful chronicle of his time.

He never made a living from art, but art always gave him life.
