Description

The analysis of geopolitical history of Mediterranean shows us the expansion of occidental Europe's influence to the South and East of that deep valley, from 11th Century and, in a first impulse until 13th Century, through commerce and political and military reinforcement by the crusades. The denomination lingua franca initially referring to the area of the Carolingian Empire expands at the end of that epoch to all the occidental Europe (so, Roman Christian Europe, clearly distinguished from the Byzantine one). So, this is how the lingua franca becomes, in that epoch, in the oriental and southern Mediterranean, synonymous with language of the occidental Europeans.
