Les espaces ruraux du piémont nord-occidental des Pyrénées se distinguent par l’existence d’une large gamme l’habitat, inscrite au sein d’un paysage particulièrement contrasté. De larges zones, pratiquement vides de formes classiques d’implantation comme la villa sont occupées, assez peu densément, par des installations probablement temporaires, artisanales ou pastorales. Par ailleurs les petites agglomérations urbaines et quelques hameaux jouent manifestement un rôle important dans l’exploitation des terres.
